Abstract

This chapter basically talks about the checklist in medicolegal practice. Healthcare safety checklists are effective in preventing human error, especially in surgical and obstetric treatment, and intensive care. Their implementation is associated with improved clinical outcomes, team working and productivity efficiencies. The WHO Surgical Safety Checklist has proved its usefulness in medical field and has been adopted by many. Use of similar checklists in medicolegal practice too can ensure that requisite action(s) have been undertaken while examining a medicolegal case. The type of checklist to be used depends on the aim of the task to be accomplished. Intensive training including rote-learning of checklists can help integrate use of checklists with more adaptive and flexible problem solving techniques. A detail about the caution with checklists and use in medicolegal practice has been provided in this chapter.
