Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the lymphatic tissue. Lymphatic tissue is rich in lymphocytes (and accessory cells such as macrophages and reticular cells). The lymphatic tissue includes the lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, adenoids and the thymus (an organ in the chest that is particularly large during infancy). Lymphatic system consists of various groups of cells, tissues and organs that are responsible for providing immunity to the body. Lymphatic vessels connect the lymph organs to the blood vascular system. Differentiating features of various lymphatic tissues are also discussed in this chapter. Clinical images are also provided in the chapter.
