The objective of this chapter is to introduce the connective tissue. Tissue that fills the intercellular space between more specialized elements, supports and holds them together is called connective tissue. Connective tissues are classified as embryonic connective tissue, connective tissue proper and specialized connective tissue. Cells include mesenchymal cells, fibroblasts, fibrocytes, adipose cells, reticular cells, pigment cells, macrophages, mast cells and plasma cells. Fibers include collagen fibers, elastic fibers, and reticular fibers. Clinical images are also provided in the chapter.
