The objective of this chapter is to introduce the cartilage. Cartilage is a tremendously strong and flexible fibrous tissue, and it takes many forms and serves multiple purposes throughout the body. Cartilage is classified as hyaline cartilage, elastic cartilage, and white fibrocartilage. Hyaline cartilage is a type of connective tissue found in areas such as the nose, ears, and trachea of the human body. Elastic cartilage or yellow cartilage is a type of cartilage present in the outer ear, Eustachian tube and epiglottis. White fibrocartilage consists of a mixture of white fibrous tissue and cartilaginous tissue in various proportions. Clinical images are also provided in the chapter.
