Airway Management

by Geetanjali S Verma

The aim of this book is to focus on the airway management. Airway management is the evaluation, planning, and use of medical procedures and devices for the purpose of maintaining or restoring ventilation in a patient. These procedures are indicated in patients undergoing general anesthesia and in patients with respiratory failure or acute airway obstruction. This book consists of 14 chapters, which include understanding the basics, clinical evaluation of airway, anesthetic pharmacology, instruments, tracheal intubation, fiberoptic bronchoscope, surgical airway, confirmation techniques of secured airways, one lung ventilation, difficult airways, extubation, ventilation strategies, airway management in airway surgeries and airway fires, and advances in airway management. Airway as a topic may seem small but it needs vast knowledge of all spheres—anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and instruments. The knowledge of the airway is tested in every examination—MCQs, written examinations, OSCE/viva, in all parts of the world. This book is useful in the everyday practice.
