Abstract

The title of a research paper is the first thing one comes across while going through a research article. The context of the research work is exhibited in the title in a concise manner. Construction of an article’s title has a significant impact on acceptance and frequency of citation of a research paper. Journal websites, database and search engines use the words from the title to categorize the topic. There are three main types of title, viz., declarative, descriptive and interrogative. Declarative title exhibits the main findings or conclusion, whereas a descriptive title does not divulge the findings. In interrogative title, result of the topic remains suspense to the readers and as such, the reader may feel to go through the whole article. A good title not only catches the readers’ attention, but also helps in specializing the particular article from other articles on the same topic. The chapter covers characteristics of a good title and the title writing process too.
