Abstract

Fluid and electrolyte balance is a dynamic process that is crucial for life and hemostasis. Actual and potential disorders of fluid and electrolyte balance can occur in every individual, either sick or well at any time. The chapter covers discussion on the topics like homeostasis, osmolality, body fluids, water balance, electrolytes, electrolyte balance, electrolyte imbalances, and acid-base imbalance. Homeostasis is the state of internal equilibrium in the body. All the organs and structures in the body are involved in the maintenance of homeostasis. Electrolytes are chemicals that can conduct electricity when dissolved in water. Contents have been presented in a simple manner with illustrations, figures and comparative charts for better comprehension.
