The chapter focuses on the neurotic, stress-related, and somatoform disorders. Neurosis is a term generally used to describe a nonpsychotic mental illness which triggers feelings of distress and anxiety and impairs functioning. Neurotic, stress-related, and somatoform disorders are classified into phobic anxiety disorders, other anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, reaction to severe stress, and adjustment disorders, dissociative (conversion) disorders, somatoform disorders, and other neurotic disorders. Nurse should establish a trusty relation with patients with neurotic disorders so that they will express their feelings freely. Positive feedback is to be given to those clients when they adopt healthy coping strategies.
