Abstract

Communication is an interactive process between two or more persons who send and receive messages. Communication is very essential component of psychiatric nursing. Therapeutic communication refers to an interpersonal interaction between the nurse and the client for promoting the physical and emotional health of a client. Therapeutic communication occurs when the nurse communicates to the patient in such a way that brings out a therapeutic outcome. Process recording is a tool which records the interaction between the nurse and the client. Therapeutic nurse-client relationship is the foundation of all psychiatric nursing treatment measures. It is important that the nurse should enter into relationship that is confidential, safe and consistent. Four phases of nurse-client relationship are also given. Therapeutic impasses are factors that hinder in the progress of nurse and client relationship.
