Abstract

Antithrombotic drugs are used for prevention and treatment of thrombosis. Anticoagulants are the mainstay of prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism because fibrin is the predominant component of venous thrombi. This chapter covers the enoxaparin, streptokinase, urokinase, fondaparinux, heparin sodium, warfarin, tirofiban, dalteparin, bemiparin sodium, and acenocoumarol along with their indication, dose, contraindication, precaution, adverse effect, and drug interaction. Venous thromboembolism, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), unstable angina are the indications of enoxaparin. Hypersensitivity, acute bacterial endocarditis, major bleeding disorder, hemorrhagic stroke, and drug-induced thrombocytopenia are the contraindications of enoxaparin. Acute myocardial infarction, pulmonary thromboembolism, arteriovenous occlusions are the indications of streptokinase.
