A steroid is a biologically active organic compound with four rings arranged in a specific molecular configuration. This chapter covers the prednisolone, triamcinolone, methylprednisolone acetate, deflazacort, hydrocortisone, dexamethasone, betamethasone, fludrocortisone, and trioxsalen along with their indication, dose, contraindication, precaution, adverse effect, and drug interaction. Allergic and inflammatory, poorly controlled, moderate-to-severe asthma, nephritic syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, infantile spasms, and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura are the indications of prednisolone. Hypersensitivity, live vaccines, herpes simplex keratitis, and systemic infections are the contraindications of prednisolone. Adrenocortical insufficiency, soft-tissue inflammation, and intra-articular joint inflammations are the indications of hydrocortisone.
