Abstract

This chapter discusses electrolyte imbalance. Mnemonics to remember electrolyte imbalance, fluid volume overload and fluid volume deficit, and etiology and clinical manifestations of electrolyte imbalance are covered in this chapter in the table format. Mnemonics to remember electrolyte imbalance include causes of hyperkalemia, causes of hypernatremia, symptoms of hypernatremia, and symptoms of hypokalemia. Clinical manifestations include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, confusion, tachycardia, decreased diastolic blood pressure, decreased deep tendon reflex, postural hypotension, and flat affect.
