Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to focus on the assessment of burns. A burn is an injury caused by thermal, chemical, electrical or radiation energy. A scald is a burn caused by contact with a hot liquid or steam but the term \'burn\' is often used to include scalds. Primary survey includes airway or C-spine immobilization, breathing and ventilation, circulation, disability and neurological deficit, expose, and fluid. Secondary survey includes assess percentage and depth of burns, cover client with clean and dry sheet, avoid using ice or ointment, and elevate burn extremities above the heart level in circumferential burns.
