The aim of this chapter is to focus on the death care. Changes in body after death, physical signs of dying and stages of grief after death, management of dying patient, signs of death, and care after death are covered in this chapter. Signs of death are absence of heart sounds for 2 minutes, absence of respiratory sounds for 3 minutes, absence of carotid pulse and femoral pulse for 2 minutes, and fixed and dilated pupils, no response to the light. After death the body undergoes many physical changes and so early nursing care must be given to prevent tissue damage and disfigurement of body parts.
