Abstract

This chapter describes the overview of the role of ultrasound in the management of diabetes in pregnancy. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most common noncommunicable diseases (NCD), with serious consequences. NCD kill over 36 million people worldwide each year, of this 36 million, over 1.3 million are attributable to DM. The main objective of this review article is to discuss the effect of DM on the fetus. Role of ultrasound in estimation of fetal weight, role of 3d ultrasound in EFW in diabetic pregnancy, role of ultrasound in diagnosis of congenital malformation, and role of ultrasound in monitoring diabetic pregnant patients are also covered in this chapter.
