Abstract

Post acne scarring is a common and a distressing condition with a significant negative impact on the quality of life. Treatment of acne scars is a real therapeutic challenge. Most of the topical medications are mildly effective at the most and they are associated with troublesome side effects. Classification of acne scars includes atrophic acne scars, ice pick scars, boxcar scars, rolling scars, hypertrophic scars, etc. Procedures used to treat acne scars range from simple office procedures like peels and microdermabrasion to aggressive procedures like laser resurfacing and surgical treatment options. In many cases, a combination of multiple treatment modalities is required to get a satisfactory therapeutic response. Patient should be counseled about outcome of the surgery.
