Abstract

The chapter discusses about the use of lasers in dermatosurgery while treating hyperpigmentary disorders. Freckles, solar lentigines, lentiginous nevus, café au lait macules and seborrheic keratosis are the epidermal pigmented lesions that may be amenable to laser therapy. Melanocytic nevi, blue nevi, drug induced hyperpigmentation and nevus of Ota and Ito are the dermal lesions which can be tackled by lasers. Epidermal pigmented lesions, mixed epidermal and dermal pigmented lesions, dermal pigmented lesions, patient selection and preprocedure evaluation, treatment steps, postoperatice care and complications are some of the topics that are discussed in this chapter. Picolasers are newer hope for tattoos and needs further studies to know their efficacy in other pigmentary lesions.
