Abstract

Human life starts from a single fertilized cell. This cell is under constant interaction with the environment. There are various changes take place in this cell in mother’s womb and after birth in the world. This changes leads to the growth and development of the child. Growth and development usually referred to as a unit, express the sum of the numerous changes that take place during the lifetime of an individual. The entire course is a dynamic process that encompasses several interrelated dimensions. This chapter covers the patterns of growth and development, stage of growth and development and tasks, principles of growth and development, factors affecting growth and development, psychological needs of different age group people, psychological needs of vulnerable population, and nursing implications of growth and development. In this chapter, short essay type questions and multiple choice questions along with their answer key are also provided.
