Abstract

Sensations are the mind’s window to the world that exists around us. A sensation is an elementary cognitive experience. Sensations are the first things in the way of consciousness. Attention is the process of getting an object of thought clearly before the mind. Attention is the tendency to dwell on an object so as to understand it theoretically and practically. Perception is that mental process by which we get knowledge of objective facts. The process of interpretation of sensation according to experiences is known as perception. This chapter covers the nature of sensation, attention and perception, characteristics of attention, types of attention, importance of attention, factors influencing attention, nature and characteristics of perception, difference between sensation and perception, and factors influencing perception. In this chapter, short essay type questions and multiple choice questions along with their answer key are also provided.
