Abstract

The larynx is a complex box made of bone and cartilage and lined with mucosa. The main function of larynx is modulation of air inspired through the nose and expired from the lungs for maintenance of normal speech. Stridor, epiglottitis, vocal cord palsy, laryngitis, and tumors of the larynx (Papilloma, angiofibroma, squamous cell carcinoma) are discussed. Tracheostomy is making an opening in anterior wall of the trachea and converting it into a stoma on skin surface. The nasopharynx lies behind the posterior apertures of nasal cavities, anterior to the first cervical vertebra and continues below as oropharynx. Tumors of the nasopharynx like angiofibroma, antrochoanal polyp, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, etc. are also described in this chapter.
