Abstract

Irrational prescribing is seen everywhere (developing and developed countries), at all levels (senior consultants and junior students) and in all categories (specialists, super specialists). As drug treatment is the essence of therapeutics, it become extremely important to audit prescriptions. Wrong prescriptions can be fatal. With consumer protection act (CPA) in force, you need to be careful when writing prescriptions. Dosage form, quantity, length of therapy, patient allergies, signature, registration number, directions, substitution, etc. are common errors in prescription writing. A brief description on tips for avoiding prescribing errors, parameters of prescription audit, and tips for writing a good prescription has been given in this chapter.
