Abstract

Lasers are an essential component in the treatment of glaucoma. Lasers act as a double-edged sword being both advantageous and hazardous at the same time. In most of the ophthalmic applications, the laser magnitude is modulated well to minimize the side effects and increase the safety of the patient as well as the clinician. It is immensely important to understand the basic principles of each ophthalmic application of laser before we utilize the lasers for the treatment of glaucoma. This chapter describes the hazards of laser, and uses of lasers in glaucoma. Any laser used either for photocoagulation, photo disruption or ablation, if misdirected can be potentially hazardous to the biological tissues.
