Giddiness is one of the common symptoms encountered in neurological practice. Patients use different terms like giddiness, dizziness, floating sensation, imbalance, light headedness, darkening in front of eyes, etc. True vertigo consists of definite sense of rotation (spinning) either of the individual or surroundings, often associated with vomiting, sweating and imbalance and is a manifestation of vestibular dysfunction. Dizziness, blurring of vision, sinking feeling are symptoms of presyncope and when extended, leads to syncope (falling to ground). Characteristically they occur when the patient is standing for a long time or in crowded area or due to stressful situations and is associated with nausea and sweating. Patient complains of dizziness/giddiness all the time with varying intensity. It is not disabling and the person is able to carry out all activities as usual including climbing into a running bus! There are no associated symptoms like vomiting or sweating, but associated features of anxiety and depression like headache, acidity, chest pain, palpitation etc. are present.
