Abstract

The main motive of this chapter is to outline various aspects of sexual health in women with diabetes which are to be detected and treated for their well being. Diabetes is one of the largest global health emergencies of 21st century. Approximately 415 million adults are estimated to have diabetes in the world out of which about 199.5 million will be women as per data published in International Diabetes Federation in 2015. Sexual health is one of the most neglected aspects in India, especially in women due to cultural and social taboos. Desire, excitement, orgasm, and resolution are four phases process of sexual response cycle, which have categorized by Masters and Kaplan. Sexual dysfunction is an age old complication associated with diabetes in men. Female sexual dysfunction is also as common as it is in men with T2DM. Physicians must give attention to sexual health when evaluating any case of T2DM. A secure environment should be provided in the clinic so that patient feels comfortable to disclose the issues. Doctors should be trained appropriately in this field to improve patient care for the social and psychological well-being.
