This book focuses on Gastrointestinal Surgery Series: Pancreas and Hepatobiliary Surgery. Gastrointestinal surgery is the branch of surgery that intervenes to treat or improve the prognosis of pathologies affecting one or more organs of the digestive system. This book consists of 11 chapters. There are five chapters on difficult problems in pancreatic surgery with some innovative ideas provided, for instance in pancreatic cancer the superior mesenteric artery first approach, the laparoscopic procedure, vascular resection and reconstruction, dealing with the remnant after removal of the head and the formidable procedure of distal pancreatectomy with coeliac axis resection for advanced pancreatic body carcinoma. The other chapters also describe how to deal with situations which we, as hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeons, encounter frequently and are quite unsure of how to precede. These include operations for acute pancreatitis, techniques for managing hilar blocks of the bile ducts, operations for hepatocellular and gallbladder cancer and finally biliovascular injuries. This book is helpful for the young surgeons and gastrointestinal surgeons.
