Abstract

Photometry is the most common analytical technique used in clinical laboratory. The principle of photometry is based on the physical laws of radiant energy of light. It measures the amount of light absorbed by colored solutions formed from the substance to be estimated. Photometric principles are applied in several kinds of analytical measurements. Measurement of absorbed or transmitted light is done by colorimetry, spectrophotometry, atomic absorption, turbidimetry, etc. Measurement of emitted light is done by flame emission photometry, fluorimetry, etc. Spectrophotometer is an instrument that measures the intensity of light.
