Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to focus on the estimation of serum albumin. Albumin constitutes 55–65% of the total plasma proteins. It is synthesized in the liver. The estimation of albumin can be done by the methods following as salt precipitation method, electrophoresis, immunochemical methods, and dye-binding method briefly explained. Globulins can be precipitated by half saturation with ammonium sulfate, whereas albumin is precipitated only by full saturation. Protein estimation (after precipitation of globulins) by biuret method can be done.
