This chapter deals with the discussion on transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block. It is a commonly used regional anesthesia technique particularly for postoperive analgesia in different abdominal surgeries. The technique was first described by Rafi in 2001 as a landmark technique. In this technique local anesthtic is being injected between the transversus abdominis and internal oblique muscles. The TAP block can be given at different level depending on type of surgery. Ultrasound helps to localize exact layers of different abdominal muscles and thus facilitates proper drug distribution between transversus abdominis and internal oblique muscles. Using ultrasound individual nerves like Ilioinguinal and Iliohypogastric can also be blocked. Anatomy, indications, landmark technique for TAP block, ultrasound-guided TAP block, ultrasound anatomy, technique of TAP block, and complications of TAP block are the topics which are discussed throughout this chapter.
