This chapter presents a glimpse on drug therapy for some of the most common medical emergencies. Shock is a state of acute circulatory collapse leading to inadequate tissue perfusion and hypoxia. Shock can be of four types i.e. anaphylactic shock, cardiogenic shock, septic shock, and hypovolemic/hemorrhagic shock. Status epilepticus, status asthmaticus, tetany, acute addisonian crisis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and hyperosmolar nonketotic syndrome are other medical emergencies which are covered in this chapter.
