Abstract

Teenage or adolescent pregnancy is the pregnancy occurring in teenagers from puberty to 19 years of age. Births to adolescent mothers represent 10% of births worldwide and contribute to 23% of maternal morbidity and mortality. In India early age of marriage is the leading cause for a higher incidence of teenage pregnancy. Women who become pregnant for the first time after the age of 35 years are termed as elderly primigravida. The chapter discusses about the special investigations other than routine investigations in the cases of pregnancies in extremes of ages, role of preconceptional counseling, risks likely to be encountered, management of delivery, etc.
