Abstract

Until the nineteenth century, most of our knowledge regarding science and religion was interpreted almost exclusively by clergymen and church. The conflict between the religion and science occurred because religion and religious studies put an emphasis on the ethical code and the behavior of people in this world while the explanations of natural laws were insufficient compared to what we know about them today. In the nineteenth century, the development of science and the educational system caused the significant spread of scientific knowledge and an increased number of scientists questioning natural laws. One of the strongest conflicts between the religious beliefs and scientific interpretations regarded the area of astronomy. This chapter covers the anthropocentric and egocentric approach by the religions versus scientific findings and love and tolerance on the earth may help facing new distant civilizations.
