Abstract

This section discusses about basic science of diabetes. This section covers the association of 1,5-anhydroglucitol, a biomarker of glucose peaks, with subclinical cardiovascular disease, changes in metabolic hormones after bariatric surgery and their predictive impact on weight loss, systems biology-derived biomarkers to predict progression of renal function decline in type 2 diabetes mellitus, proinflammatory cytokines predict the incidence and progression of distal sensorimotor polyneuropathy, association between changes in estradiol and folliclestimulating hormone levels during the menopausal transition and risk of diabetes mellitus, duodenal mucosa of patients with type 1 diabetes shows distinctive inflammatory profile and microbiota, urinary exosomal micro RNA panel unravels novel biomarkers for diagnosis of type 2 diabetic kidney disease, and microarray analysis of long noncoding RNA expression patterns in diabetic nephropathy. 1,5-Anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG) is a biomarker of glucose peaks and has been associated with clinical cardiovascular disease. However, the association between 1,5-AG and subclinical cardiovascular disease is unknown.
