This section describes the epidemiology of diabetes. Epidemiology is the branch of medical science that studies the distribution of disease in human populations and the factors determining that distribution, chiefly by the use of statistics. This section covers the mortality in type 1 diabetes in the DCCT/EDIC versus the general population, frequency of evidence-based screening for retinopathy in type 1 diabetes, cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy and cardiovascular outcomes in the diabetes control and complications trial/epidemiology of diabetes interventions and complications (DCCT/EDIC) study, association between inpatient sleep loss and hyperglycemia of hospitalization, insulin resistance predicts cognitive decline, strengths, risk factors, and resilient outcomes in adolescents with type 1 diabetes, representation of people of south asian origin in cardiovascular outcome trials of glucose-lowering therapies in type 2 diabetes, and ormonal contraception and risk of thromboembolism in women with diabetes.
