Abstract

This section describes gestational diabetes mellitus. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as any degree of glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. This section covers a longitudinal study of iron status during pregnancy and the risk of gestational diabetes, systematic review or meta-analysis, translating HbA1C measurements into estimated average glucose values in pregnant women with diabetes, conversion of gestational diabetes mellitus to future type 2 diabetes mellitus and the predictive value of hba1c in an Indian cohort, plasma fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4) as a novel biomarker to predict gestational diabetes mellitus, maternal BMI and glycemia impact the fetal metabolome, glyburide versus metformin and their combination for the treatment of gestational diabetes mellitus, a predictive metabolic signature for the transition from gestational diabetes to type 2 diabetes, and insulin therapy in women with pregestational type 2 diabetes and its relevance to maternal and neonatal complications.
