Abstract

Gynecological cancers are a collective term used for cancers involving the female reproductive system—ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, vagina, and vulva. Cancers of fallopian tube and vulva are relatively rare as compared to the other gynecological cancers. Epithelial ovarian cancer derived from coelomic epithelium or mesothelium is the most common one with an incidence of 75–80% of all ovarian cancers. It predominantly occurs in the age group of 55–60 years but the age-specific incidence rises precipitously from 20 years to 80 years of age. Addressing the fertility concerns of women diagnosed with gynecological cancer is important and requires a multidisciplinary approach in coordination with a fertility specialist.
