BOOK TITLE: Retina: Medical and Surgical Management
This chapter gives an overview on central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). CSCR is a chorioretinal disease with multifactorial etiology, and a complex pathogenesis. According to recent literature, CSCR has been identified as a disorder of choroidal vasculature primarily. Increased permeability of the choriocapillaris leads to focal or diffuse dysfunction of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) causing neurosensory detachment. The exact etiology of CSCR is not fully understood. CSCR has been associated with patients having high levels of endogenous corticosteroids as well as in patients with secondary hypercortisolism. Optical coherence tomography, fluorescein angiography, fundus autofluorescence, indocyanine green angiography, and optical coherence tomography angiography are various investigations options for CSCR. Medical treatment, oral mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, and laser treatment are different treatment options of CSCR, which are discussed in detail. 18 clinical figures are also provided in this chapter.
