Abstract

This chapter mainly focuses on the retinal vein occlusion (RVO), which is divided in to two parts, i.e. branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). RVO comprises of conditions caused due to blockade of small or large caliber vessels carrying blood away from the retina. These may present clinically as an asymptomatic condition to as severe as complete visual loss. It is one of the most common retinal pathology worldwide causing visual loss. One of the most important risk factor for BRVO is arteriolosclerosis. BRVO is a focal occlusion of a retinal vein other than the central retinal vein. CRVO is a retinal condition occurring as a result of obstruction of blood flow in the central retinal vein. It is a cause of significant ocular morbidity. Epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation and diagnosis, and treatment of BRVO and CRVO are also provided in this chapter.
