Abstract

This chapter seeks to familiarize the readers with environmental, wildlife and forest conservation acts. The Environmental Protection Act was implemented on 23rd May, 1986 by Parliament of India. This act was formulated for protection and improvement of various environments and for matters connected there with. The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act was implemented by Indian government on 29th March, 1981, after planned at United Nations Conference on Human Environment held at Stockholm in 1972. The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act was implemented on 23rd March, 1974 and was amended in 1988. This act was established by central government with association of boards at central and state level for prevention and control of water pollution. The Forest (Conservation) Act was provided for conservation of forests and for matters related to the natural habitat of flora and fauna. Salient Features and objectives of all these Acts are discussed in this chapter. Role of NGO’s in environmental education/environmental protection and role of information technology in environment and human health are also covered in this chapter.
