Abstract

Trocar anterior chamber maintainer (TACM) is a new technique where a trocar cannula system is used for infusion into the eye at the level of limbus and it essentially works as an anterior chamber maintainer (ACM). The basis for the wound construction is similar to the modern vitrectomy surgery, which creates a biplanar angle-based incision with the trocar system. Self-sealing wounds are the most desirable and are the hallmark of any intraocular surgery. Controlled access to the intraocular segment structures without running risk of hypotony is the prime concern of all the surgeons. ACM and trocar cannula are the most common methods employed for infusion by the anterior segment and posterior segment surgeons, respectively. This chapter covers a detailed discussion on surgical technique using TACM, advantages of TACM, and TACM in anterior segment surgery.
