Cardiac rehabilitation is an essential component of the continuum of care for patients with CHD. The American Health Association (AHA) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) endorse cardiac rehabilitation/secondary prevention programs to treat patients with CHD. Cardiac rehabilitation is prescribed for patients who have had MI, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, chronic stable angina pectoris, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), cardiomyopathy, heart failure, heart transplantation, and for all patients diagnosed with CHD. Components of cardiac rehabilitation are also discussed in this chapter.
