Abstract

At present, there is an ever-increasing incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) globally. Occurrences of both type 1 DM (T1DM) and type 2 DM (T2DM) are increasing; however, T2DM has a disproportionately greater contribution to the increased incidence and prevalence of DM. The important consequence of the increasing prevalence of DM is a considerable increment in the economic burden both on the patient and already overburdened the healthcare systems, especially in the developing countries. This chapter covers the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease in diabetes, management of coronary artery disease in diabetes mellitus, coronary artery bypass graft outcomes in diabetes mellitus, and newer drug therapy for cardiovascular risk reduction.
