Abstract

This chapter describes the recent advances in nuclear cardiology and cardiodiabetes. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with diabetes worldwide. In association with the elevated prevalence, morbidity, mortality of CAD worldwide, there has been a steady increase in the use of cardiac imaging techniques, including those based on nuclear medicine. Noninvasive imaging techniques have been shown to be extremely useful in diagnostic and prognostic assessment to coronary disease in individuals with diabetes mellitus. An exercise treadmill test (TMT) can be safe and effective in initial screening test in patients who can exercise and have normal base line ECG.
