Abstract

This chapter aims to covers drugs used in cardiovascular emergency. Adenosine is used for the termination of sinus node reentrant tachycardia, atrioventricular (AV) nodal reentrant tachycardia, and AV reentrant tachycardia. Alprostadil (prostaglandin E1) is used to maintain the patency of the ductus arteriosus in neonates who have congenital heart defects and depend on a patent ductus arteriosus for survival, till corrective or palliative surgery can be done. Amiodarone, atropine, beta-blockers for acute indications, digoxin for acute indications, diltiazem, dobutamine, dopamine, epinephrine, isoprenaline, etc. are some other drugs which are discussed in this chapter along with their indication, dosage, contraindications, and side-effects.
