Abstract

This chapter aims to provide detailed discussion on management of chronic heart failure. A syndrome characterized by either or both pulmonary and systemic venous congestion and/or inadequate peripheral oxygen delivery at rest or during stress, caused by cardiac dysfunction. The principles of treatment of chronic heart failure are based on history, clinical examination, and investigation, which are discussed in this chapter. Stage A, stage B, stage C, and stage D are four stages of heart failure. Outline of treatment of congestive heart failure (CHF), pharmacotherapy of CHF diuretics, guidelines for use of diuretics, angiotensin-receptor blockers, beta-blockers, angiotensin-receptor-neprilysin inhibitor, and emerging pharmacologic treatment are also discussed in this chapter. Seven well-illustrated tables are also provided in this chapter, which are helpful for better understanding.
