Abstract

This chapter aims to present a brief discussion on importance of rest and sleep in human health. Lack of rest can lead to problems as decreased memory, increased stress level etc. Sleep is a naturally recurring state of mind characterized by altered consciousness, relatively inhibited sensory activity, inhibition of nearly all voluntary muscles, and reduced interactions with surroundings. It helps to protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. A sleep deficit can make you feel mentally slower and more emotional, which can exacerbate your experience of stress. Dealing with lasting insomnia can cause stress too which can lead to more stress-related insomnia. The stress can lead to various physical and psychological symptoms, including sleep disorders. Stress management program can be individualized or group activity. Various stress management techniques mainly aims at reducing the stressors or teaching a coping techniques. These different strategies act on different levels of nervous system. One style of training does not fit all. Managing stress can help client to achieve maximum functional independence.
