This chapter describes anatomical terminology and components of skull. Anatomical terminology in relation to bones include condyle, eminence, head, crest, line, spine, styloid, clinoid, tubercle, tuberosity, foramen, notch, lingula, fossa, groove, canal, canaliculus, meatus, sinus, facet, protuberance, fissure, sulcus, fovea, impression, lamina, squamous, process, concha, wing, crista galli, cribriform plate, dens or odontoid process, atlas, vertebra prominence, typical cervical vertebra, and atypical cervical vertebra. Skull is a part of axial skeleton. The skull has two parts following as splanchnocranium or facial skeleton, neurocranium which has the cranial cavity for the brain. Facial skeleton develops from five processes following as frontonasal process, right and left maxillary process, right and left mandibular process.
