Abstract

Neck or cervical region is the narrow and constricted part of the body that connects head and thorax regions. In the cervical region spinal cord, nerve plexus of spinal nerves, the last four cranial nerves, great vessels of head, neck and upper limbs, trachea and oesophagus make their passage. Endocrine glands like thyroid gland and parathyroid glands and major salivary glands like parotid and submandibular gland are also present in the neck region. Groups of lymphnodes in superficial and deep planes are present. Cervical vertebrae give axial support. This chapter covers the extent, sternocleidomastoid muscle, trapezius, classification of triangles of the neck, anterior midline structures of the neck, suprahyoid group of muscles, and infrahyoid group of muscles.
