Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to focus on the back of the neck. Posterior aspect of neck or back of neck is also known as nape of neck. It extends from superior nuchal line to upper border of scapula from above downwards. This chapter covers the suboccipital triangle, prevertebral and paravertebral muscles, scalenovertebral triangle, and craniovertebral joints. Suboccipital triangle is a paired triangle. It is present in the posterior part of deep plane of the neck. Scalenovertebral Triangle is a small triangular space on either side in the lower part of cervical region. The joint between occipital bone and atlas and the joints between atlas and axis form the craniovertebral joints. They are all synovial joints.
