The objective of this chapter is to introduce the orbit. Two large pyramid-shaped hollowness in the face, below the frontal region are the orbital cavities. The description of features of orbital cavity is given in the osteology section. Contents of orbital cavity are eyeball, extraocular muscles, nerves, ciliary ganglion, ophthalmic artery and vein, adipose tissue, lacrimal gland, lymphatics, periorbita or periosteum of orbit or orbital fascia, and fascial sheath of eyeball or Tenon’s capsule briefly explained in this chapter. Eye is the organ for vision. Eye region is also called as ocular, optic, ophthal or orbit. Extraocular muscles are seven extraocular muscles present external to the eyeball and they bring out the movements of eyeball as well as the upper eyelid. Movements of eyeball are brought out by six out of the seven extraocular muscles.
