The objective of this chapter is to introduce the connective tissue. Connective tissue is a binding tissue. It connects different kinds of tissues of an organ as well as different organs with one another. Binding, anchorage and giving support are the main functions of connective tissue. Classifications of connective tissue are loose areolar tissue, dense fibrous tissue, adipose tissue, and mucoid tissue. Loose areolar tissue forms the plane of cleavage. Adipose tissue gives mechanical support. Blood and lymph being in the liquid form circulate and transport gases and elements. Bones and cartilages form the framework and provide support.
